Response to Euro Weekly article on Alcalalí Padrón

The Ayuntamiento of Alcalalí in common with other Town Halls is legally obliged
to regularly update their register of inhabitants ( Padrón). Registered letters are therefore sent out to residents at certain intervals ( approx. every 3-4 years) and this happened last August, to ascertain that they and members of their household are still living in the municipality. If no positive response is received a list of names to be taken off the Padrón is published on the Town Hall notice board and also in other places such as the medical centre. The Town Hall is also legally
obliged to publish this list in the Official Bulletin giving people 15 days to notify the Town Hall that they are still resident here. Should residents find themselves off the Padrón for any reason they can immediately reapply. It would seem a sensible precaution for residents to check every now and again that they are still on the Padrón especially prior to elections. It would help if news releases were verified by The Town Hall prior to being published to prevent any possible misinformation. I trust that this clarifies the issue.
